Winter Scenes from the Big Island of Hawaii

I love winter.  Really, I do.

Right this minute, from where I sit behind my computer in the living room I count:

14 snowmen figurines
  6 “Let It Snow” signs
  3 cross-country skier/snowflake throws
2  “Let It Snow” votive candle lamps
  2 stuffed moose on skis
 1 stuffed bear on skis
1 wooden snowman on skis and,
 1 snowman pillow.

All strategically and lovingly placed atop a mantel, a desk, a glider, and several bookcases.

But... I just spent an hour shoveling snow and chiseling ice from around my chicken coop and so, as a distraction from winter’s many pleasures, I present these photos from a November snorkeling adventure on the Big Island of Hawaii.

          Enjoy.

Tim takes the fish photos.  Here he's holding his
camera, flash and snorkel fins.

  1. Quite a remarkable contrast between your Hawaiian snorkeling adventure in November and what you are experiencing in Utah in January!

    Excellent underwater photography, Rita!

    1. I have to give Tim all the credit for the fish photos. We had a wonderful time snorkeling the Big Island.

Yes, the weather in Price has been a big contrast from what we experienced in Hawaii. This has been a snowy winter with one storm after another. We're enjoying playing in the snow, but not shoveling it!

Hope you've been able to enjoy a few winter adventures too, John!

  2. Rita, Tim's photographs made me happy, and your words made me smile. As I sit in my living room, I see the same winter-themed items scattered here and there that you have and a metal sign with dangling metal snowflakes that reads "Welcome Winter" hanging from a tree outside, which regularly draws sarcastic comments from our neighbors shoveling snow. I enjoy winter more when we take a break, which is why we're heading to Arizona and New Mexico next week, the first day the highways over the mountains look passable.

    1. Your winter break sounds lovely. I'm jealous, sort of. Because... where are we headed next week? Yellowstone!

Thanks for your comments and have a wonderful trip, Janet.

  3. Those fish almost look like flowers!
And that's the tremendous wonder presented to us each day by Nature, every breathing moment.

    Lovely pics, Rita

    1. "Like flowers"—what a wonderful description of these brilliantly colored fish!
I agree with your statement about nature as well.
Thanks for your insights and comments, Soumyendu!

  4. You both are talented photographers! What a beautiful view underwater (far more to see than my snorkeling adventure in Costa Rica).

Hope you are beating the winter doldrums and staying warm and cozy in Utah.

    1. Thanks, Vickie!
The Big Island of Hawaii does have some amazing snorkeling venues. However, with the degradation of the oceans (everywhere) and with the booming tropical fish trade, even the Hawaiian Islands do not have the numbers of fish— or the pristine reefs—that they used to have.
      See it while you can!

Winter is finally letting up here. How has SoCal been?
